I think I must have been a little dozy lately, because until I read Eric Duhatschek's piece from yesterday, I didn't even realize Joe Thornton had passed Jaromir Jagr in the NHL's scoring race.

Thornton has been on fire since the Olympic break with 16 points in eight games (not including the assist he's picked up so far tonight in an ongoing game against the Dallas Stars) while Jagr has slowed with only eight points in eight games.

Considering Thornton has two games in hand over Jagr and that the next nearest challenger is Eric Staal at nine points back, it seems reasonable to assume Big Joe will win his first ever Art Ross Trophy. Which makes you wonder — when the heck was the last time the Art Ross winner was traded midseason?

What a PR disaster for the Bruins if Thornton does indeed win the scoring title, as he would have been the first Boston player to do so since Bobby Orr in 1975.

In other, San Jose Sharks related news, they've taken a lead in tonight's game. With a win over the Stars, San Jose would leapfrog the LA Kings and be right back in the hunt for the final four playoff spots in the Western Conference.
