Life as Leighton

"I don't often see my wife and 10-month-old daughter, only a few days here and there. They're still in Sarnia, waiting for me to settle in one city for good."
Habs Inside/Out posted a nice little story on Mike Leighton today, the little-known backup netminder who the Canadiens picked up on waivers on Tuesday. Leighton, 25, has dressed for six teams this season — four in the NHL and two in the AHL — but has seen game action in less than 30 games.

In all, he's spent time with nine different teams since 2004.

Now, I know there's probably not a lot of sympathy for him given he's in the NHL, but you do sort of have to feel for players like this who are making the league minimum and are punted around on waivers all season. What I can't understand is why there isn't some sort of a limit place on how many times a player can be waived and/or picked up, something that would at least give these fringe players some semblance of a normal life.
