Let the war of attrition begin
Well, injuries are always a big story in the postseason, given they can seriously change the balance in a series as more and more inexperienced bodies are brought up to fill in (think the 2006 Buffalo Sabres, who were likely to be crowned Stanley Cup champs had falling anvils not taken out half their defence core).
What's been surprising so far this year, however, is just how beat up the bodies have become through only one round of the playoffs. Following Michal Rozsival's unfortunate departure from last night's game, my count has 16 significant players either on the shelf or battling injury — quite a high number given we likely only know a small fraction of the actual damage Round 1 inflicted.
One thing's for sure: The Rangers can't win their series without their top defenceman, and the Canucks aren't going anywhere playing Lukas Krajicek 24 minutes a night.
