Giguere, Horton hit $24-million jackpot
On the Thursday signings: Four years and $24-million for Jean-Sebastien Giguere, six years at that same figure for Nathan Horton.
At age 30 and just coming off a championship, Giguere could have commanded a bigger deal on the open market, both in the sense of term and dollar value, but he predictably stayed with what has worked over the past six seasons in Orange County.
And Horton? He’s the future in Florida, a big kid who managed 31 goals as a 21-year-old on a crummy team and could just be one of the league’s most underrated players. He’d be a household name already if he played for a Canadian franchise.
