Murray takes over as Senators GM

Ottawa announced that coach Bryan Murray is being kicked upstairs at an afternoon press conference today, something that sounds like it came as a result of owner Eugene Melnyk's master plan.

And while it was stated that this was always part of the team's vision, you have to wonder just how John Muckler feels given he built this club into a Stanley Cup finalist. Because of the timing of the move, the veteran hockey man also misses out on two vacant positions in Phoenix and Columbus, and may be in tough to find another manager's role this off-season.

At 73, Muckler may have just unwillingly retired.
