Staals gone wild
Carolina Hurricanes center Eric Staal was one of 14 people arrested in Cook County, Minn., early Saturday morning and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process. One of his three younger brothers was also arrested.
In addition to Staal, 22, his younger brother Jordan, 18, and a number of his cousins were arrested as well. Jordan Staal, who just finished his rookie year with the Pittsburgh Penguins, was also charged with consumption of alcohol while under 21 years of age. Here's a look at where the brothers got into trouble. The drinking age in Minnesota was raised to 21 back in 1986; it is only 19 in Ontario.
It doesn't appear that the other Staal who is of legal age (at least in this country), Marc Staal, was at the party, meaning he was perhaps looking to avoid what ended up happening.
An interesting story, anyway, and I wonder what it'll do to the boys' squeaky clean image. It doesn't sound as if any serious charges will arise from the incident.
UPDATE Eric McErlain at the AOL FanHouse has unearthed the boys' mugshots.
