Thursday night open thread
Well, since this was a riotous, 84-comment thread on Tuesday night, when there were only four games, why not spring another one of these things for tonight?
Nine games on the schedule, although none are really leaping out at me as barn burners. The late Detroit in San Jose match-up may be the best of the bunch, and the fact that Chris Osgood likely gets the start changes things a bit. It's been a struggle so far this season for Dominik Hasek.
Other backups drawing in tonight: Craig Anderson, Alex Auld, Kevin Weekes and Carey Price. Marc Denis may get the start for Tampa.
I'm in the newsroom, where we'll likely be watching Bryan McCabe being booed on the big screen.
Islanders @ Washington - DiPietro's been very good
Rangers @ Atlanta - Waddell returns as coach after another firing
New Jersey @ Philadelphia - Devils on the second game of a back-to-back
Tampa Bay @ Boston - Bruins and Tim Thomas have surprised
Florida @ Toronto - Panthers were awful in Montreal but won
Montreal @ Ottawa - Ray Emery's back but he's on the bench
Los Angeles @ Calgary - Kings already got this week's win
Edmonton @ Phoenix - Coyotes need to stick to Operation Lottery Ball
Detroit @ San Jose - Time for Cheechoo/Marleau to pass JR in goals
Dare I make picks again?
Islanders, Rangers, Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and San Jose.
