Burke, Poile to helm Team USA
Anaheim Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke was named the General Manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team on Friday by USA Hockey.
USA Hockey announced today that Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile has been named Associate General Manager of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team that will compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.Two good choices by the American team. Having Burke and Poile in place now gives them a full year and a half to decide on selections.
The U.S. will have its work cut out for it in 2010, but they'll have a young, hungry team at the next Olympics. Essentially all of the old guard from the 1996 World Cup win will have moved on.
Burke mentioned Ron Wilson, Peter Laviolette and John Tortorella as potential coaches for the team.
