Meet Darth Gerber

Known as 'Darth Gerber' because of the all-black mask he wore last season, the veteran netminder has a new design featuring an air-brushed picture of Star Wars villain Darth Vader.

Gerber, who only recently began watching Star Wars, wasn't sure if he would be wearing the mask during the regular season. "We'll see," he said with a slight smile. "I'm going to try it over the next few days and see how it goes."
Credit for the photo to the Ottawa Citizen's James Gordon, who has more on all this at his blog.

Martin Gerber's from Switzerland, which may explain the "recently began watching" part, but he says he's a bit taken aback by all of the attention his new getup is getting.

Just wait till the real Star Wars people get a load of it.

Meanwhile, Mike Chen takes Gerber's new choice of mask to a whole new level.

Haha! As a Star Wars fan, I gotta love that mask. The dark color is a little odd, but it works. We'll see if he actually uses it, but I think he should.
