Paul Newman (1925-2008)

Paul Newman, the Academy-Award winning superstar who personified cool as an activist, race car driver, popcorn impresario and the anti-hero of such films as Hud, Cool Hand Luke and The Color of Money, has died. He was 83.
You don't need to tell hockey fans what Newman's famous for.

Wow, sad to see him go.

I had heard he was involved with a plan to re-make Slapshot, I wonder how that'll work now...

So long, Reg. They had better not be playing "Lady of Spain" when you reach the pearly gates.

When I saw him in 1990 I wanted to walk up to him and tell him how cool Slapshot was/is for us hockey lunatics but I was too shy and only took a photo of him with my Nikon.
Of course, now I tell everybody that he was a great guy when we met. Couple of occasions. Great conversations, couple of beers...

R.I.P. Mr. Newman

I read somewhere that SlapShot was helped by the fact that Newman had actually played some ice hockey growing up in Cleveland (home to an AHL team of one brand or another going back to the 30's?).

Can you believe he was 52 when he filmed Slap Shot?

Reggie Dunlop: You know, your son looks like a fag to me.
Anita McCambridge: I beg your pardon?
Reggie Dunlop: You better get re-married again, or he's gonna have someone's cock in his mouth before you can say Jack Robinson.
Anita McCambridge: How dare you! How dare you!
