Buffalo to host world juniors

The city of Buffalo, N.Y., is one of three American locales in the running for the 2011 world junior championship, something I wrote about here on the old site, and it appears it is about to be announced as the winner of the bid process.

USA Hockey has scheduled a major announcement in Buffalo for Monday at the HSBC Arena, and I'd be shocked if it was anything but news of a successful world junior bid.

Buffalo's a very good choice for a number of reasons, and I hope the great hockey fans there embrace the tournament. Given the proximity to Toronto, however, tickets are definitely going to be hard to come by.

The 2009 tournament is in Ottawa this Christmas, while 2010's event will be in Regina and Saskatoon.

Ooooh. Nice. Buffalo is the perfect place to capitalize on both the American and Canadian fanbases. We love our Sabres here, but I don’t know that there is currently a ton of interest in the world juniors. I think Buffalonians will relish the opportunity to learn about the tournament first hand. This is great news!

Good choice

Should be a good choice for the tourney. Still jonesing for 2010 to get here quick, fast and in a hurry. Our office has 4 seats for every game. I don’t know if I’ll be able to convince the bosses to save me a Gold medal one!

Has Buffalo ever called a press conference without the whole world knowing what is going to be said ahead of time?

The leak is usally months ahead of time instead of five days, but still

Bettman’s going to be in town with a few USA Hockey bigwigs — hard to keep that under wraps.

I can hardly wait until December 26, 2008 gets here! Got my tickets (well, not in my hands yet but the bank account has been drained) and have been accepted as a volunteer. Looking forward to Ottawa being absolutely hockey crazy (including having the Bell tournament for kids from around the world at the same time).

Welcome to Hockey Country!

And with the 2012 tournament in Calgary/Edmonton, this effectively means Canada is hosting the tournament four years in a row. Hell of an advantage for our boys to have their partisan fans in the crowd.
