The Kings' incredible PK streak

Hey James, congrats on the move to the new site. I've been researching and haven't been able to find out, but what is the NHL record for consecutive penalty kills and consecutive kills to start a season? The Kings are 27 for 27, but is that even close to the record?

Thanks,
Blake

Los Angeles' streak was snapped early in their game last night against Nashville, but 27 kills in a row wasn't the record. From The Big Book of Hockey Trivia:

The Washington Capitals set an NHL record in 1999-2000 with 53 consecutive successful penalty kills, and tied another record by going 12 straight games without allowing a power-play goal.

What I don't know is if that Washington record has since been broken, or what the record is from the start of the season.

Anyone know?

(As an FYI: The Wild are the last team that has yet to allow a power-play goal this season. They have given up only 19 opportunities after six games.)
