Coyotes claim Klee

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have claimed defenseman Ken Klee off re-entry waivers from the Anaheim Ducks.

Klee, 37, has appeared in three games with the Ducks this season. Last season, he played in 72 games with the Atlanta Thrashers, recording 1-9-10 and 60 penalty minutes (PIM).

Phoenix is on the hook for only half of Klee's $1.25-million salary. The Coyotes dealt away too much of their defensive depth in the Olli Jokinen trade and have really been relying too much on an inexperienced blueline in the early going.

The Ducks, meanwhile, make way for Bret Hedican's salary.

I think Klee is a steal for the Coyotes. One of the best positional defensemen I’ve seen and he brings a lot of experience to the table.

Coyotes +1 (which makes them team 29?)

1) Early on its the Coyotes offense thats not holding up its side of the bargain
2) Of course at that price Klee is hardly a big gamble to pick up to bolster the backline depth

Way to avoid the temptation of using the classic headline “Koyotes Klaim Ken Klee”.

I totally would have.

That brainiac Burke does it again:)
Thats Sarcasm for all you leaf media that want Burke here in TO.

I wonder how good ANA would have been with ILA, Andy Macdonald etc…..
Though Hedican is an upgrade over Klee

Though Hedican is an upgrade over Klee

…which, for all his mistakes, does kind of make Burke look smarter than Maloney, doesn’t it? He can take Hedican over Klee and have Phoenix more than make up for the extra salary.

I've been looking at the sky

I wonder how good ANA would have been with ILA, Andy Macdonald etc…..

And I wonder how far over the salary cap that team would be. Fun to dream, though, I guess.

Phoenix with another shrewd waiver snag from Anaheim, less than a year after Bryzgalov. Burke’s feeding the hounds in his own backyard.

I wouldn’t compare Bryzzy with Klee, but it IS a solid pickup. The Avs could’ve used him back, as our top-6 is money, but after that it goes downhill rather quickly

I agree that Klee’s not exactly going to be a franchise cornerstone, but it was a very sensible move in that Phoenix has managed to fill a glaring hole on the cheap without giving up a single piece of their team.

They’re comparable in that sense, nobody would say the players are of equal value.

I didn’t realize we had so many Ken Klee fans in the house.

This should bump Hale to the press box… he’s had an awful start to the year. Klee at half price is more in line with what he is: a 6/7 guy at this point in his career.

The Yotes have other problems on D now, however. Morris and Jovo haven’t got a point so far this year… Yandle is the only D for them hitting the scoresheet. I don’t see how they can compete for a playoff spot without their D contributing good offensive numbers.

Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

They haven’t got points yet, but both have had some quality chances stopped by goalies standing on thier heads. Jovo had 2 in the Washington game that were almost open netters that somehow Theodore got over to in time.

Wow, after I was all sarcastic about picking him up for half the price on re-entry the other day, my team goes and grabs him. Not really sure what we got, but I know we got it for cheap and that it has to be better then David “Longest streak of not scorring a goal(Never)” Hale.
