Ruutu puts himself in situations like these about once or twice a year….I’m happy that Lapierre seemingly wasn’t injured.

Ruutu would have gotten 3 games…

Could have been a pretty bad injury if you think about it. I don’t know about these guys, but the elbow pads I wear now are like concrete.

Suspension

How does Kostopolous get three games when Ruutu only gets two? At least Kostopolous looked like he was trying to make a legitimate hit. Ruutu’s was a complete cheap shot

Here's how

Kostopolous has a “history” with the NHL (like his suspension in the playoffs last year) so in their eyes he’s a repeat offender whereas with Ruutu, shockingly, this is his first suspension.

Not at all surprising. Ruutu doesn’t often go over the line like this. He’s the type of coward who will try to draw you into a penalty with a borderline cheapshot, then either turtle or run for his bench. But I can’t recall him aiming for the head very often… probably because he’s usually going down before he even makes his hits.

History or not

It looked like Kostopolous was making a hockey play and Ruuttu had only one thing on his mind and that was a cheap shot. It looke to me like he went out of his way to make the hit and than he raised his elbow in the air. It’s plays like this when it appears that there is deliberate intent to injure that give the NHL a bad name. This deserved at least five games to send a message.

Oh by the way…why in the hell would Bryan Murray be complaining about this suspension. Last season when Alfredsson was hit with a clean check he wanted a suspension and now he is saying there shouldn’t be a suspension for this garbage. He would be better off keeping his mouth shut once in awhile instead of making himself look like an ass all the time.
