Down goes Luongo
Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo left the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday with a groin injury.
Luongo, a two-time NHL all-star, was injured while making what appeared to be a routine save on a shot by Philippe Boucher about five minutes into the game. He slowly collapsed to the ice and was assisted off while favouring his left leg.
No official word on his condition was immediately available.
I'll update when I see more on this, but the initial reports don't sound good. Vancouver's recalled Cory Schneider from the AHL, where he has been phenomenal this season.

only a 2 time all-star? Wow! I thought that he’d been an all-star for 5 or 6 years already.

Cory Schneider won’t even realize that he’s left the AHL.

The expectation is that Curtis Sanford will be given the reigns. He played well on Vancouver’s road trip and helped his team win both games in Minnesota and Pittsburgh. The Canucks take pride in their locker room strength this year. They are rallying behind Sanford. It would be the wrong message to not play him.
That being said, Cory Schneider will surely be given starts over the duration of Luongo’s injury. It will be exciting to see if he can convert his AHL game to the NHL.

Oh I fully expect Sanford to play. But you can’t deny Schneider’s been the best goaltender in the AHL this season, which is a great backup option should Sanford falter.

It is hardly gospel, but I see some innuendo on the usual suspect hockey forums that the prognosis isn’t good. Some people are claiming that they will announce a 2-3 month recovery tomorrow.

More specifically, it seems that it is this post on Hockey’s Future that has sparked the two month rumour.
I used to post quite frequently on that forum and was a moderator there for a while too. I cannot vouch for him, but I do not have a reason to not believe him either.
Well, apart from the fact that this is the internet.
