THN's Greatest Masks issue

Thns08masks1_medium Just wanted to get up a quick note about The Hockey News' latest special issue, which is a great read on the Greatest Masks of All Time.

It's 170 pages, with stories on tons of old masks and the evolution of them, and interviews with everyone from Bernie Parent to Cesare Maniago and Gerry Cheevers. They even track down some of the lesser-known 'tenders, guys like Hardy Astrom (Don Cherry's favourite goalie from his Rockies days), Murray Bannerman and Gilles Villemure.

There's also a look at all of the current masks, something that Sports Illustrated provided recently online.

Anyway, THN gets a ton of grief from the blogosphere, but this magazine's worth a look.

THN may get a fair share of abuse through blogs but their special issues never fail to impress.

saw it in the book store.

i’m disappointed with the print quality. the guts were far too thin. shoulda splurged and printed a high-quality book.

Don't be afraid to take a few steps back, but you better keep moving forward.

Paper’s expensive nowadays.

I didn’t really have a problem with the quality… it’s some sort of glossy paper and the magazine cost $7.

Allow players to paint their helmets

If the NHL wanted to add some personality to their players, they should allow/encourage skaters to paint their helmets, just as Goalies paint their masks/helmets….just a thought
