KHL all-star voting: Where Clymer's a star

Looking for an all-star vote process that doesn't have any Canadiens players in the mix?

It'll be Russia versus the world in the KHL's all-star game, and so far, the support has been big for the likes of Alex Radulov, Ray Emery and, yes, Ben Clymer. The inaugural KHL all-star game will take place Jan. 10, 2009, outdoors in Red Square in Moscow.

Current vote leaders, by position, for each team:

Team Yashin

Goalies
Alexander Eremenko (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) – 10,973
Georgi Gelashvili (Traktor Chelyabinsk) – 3,934
Maksim Sokolov (Metallurg Chelyabinsk) – 2,915

Defensemen
Konstantin Korneev (CSKA Moscow) – 9,177
Igor Schadilov (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) – 8,932
Vitaly Proshkin (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) – 5,978
Ilya Nikulin (Ak Bars Kazan) – 5,964

Forwards
Alexander Radulov (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) – 16,060
Alexei Morozov (Ak Bars Kazan) – 14,781
Alexander Perezhogin (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) – 12,913
Daris Zaripov (Ak Bars Kazan) – 8,132

Team Jagr

Goalies
Ray Emery (Atlant Mytishchi) – 11,370
Robert Esche (SKA St. Petersburg) – 10,237
Rostislav Stana (Severstal Cherepovets) 2,928

Defensemen
Ben Clymer (Dynamo Minsk) – 11,594
Kevin Dallman (Barys Astana) – 10,604
Raymond Giroux (SKA St. Petersburg) – 7,653
Magnus Johansson (Atlant Mytishchi) 6,915

Forwards
Alexei Kalyuzhny (Dynamo Moscow) – 14,929
Jan Marek (Metallurg Magnitogorsk) – 13,958
Oleg Antonenko (HC MVD) — 11,850
Pavel Brendl (Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod) – 11,850

Believe it or not, Kevin Dallman is one of the KHL's leading scorers. Clymer must just be a fan favourite in Minsk because his numbers aren't all that impressive so far.

I blame those damn Belarussian auto-voters.

Emery

Anyone know how Emery is playing in the KHL this year (number of votes aside)? Has he regained his game?

Yes, he’s played pretty well — although he’s playing in a tandem with the other goaltender, whose numbers are slightly better.

Canadiens players

Actually, there are some Canadiens players in the mix. Konstantin Korneev and Alexander Perezhogin are both Habs property!

Hah — good point.

Why isn’t Alexei Emelin, Pavel Valentenko, or Maxim Trunev on the list? Come on Habs fans, let’s rock the vote!

Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

Say it ain't so

Are the nicknames really “Team Jagr” and “Team Yashin”?

Heard these mentioned over the past few weeks but assumed it was a joke (how could one not come to that conclusion???).

Admittedly, I haven’t been following the KHL too closely…

Yeah, I wondered about that too. So, I guess they also have a bye to the game or something? They would, after all, get lots of votes there, especially Jagr, but aren’t on the list. Oh well, I guess that’s one way to market the stars.

Yes, they’re the team captains. I think they even got to select a couple players, although I may be wrong on that.

Ah, thanks for the info. That player selection sounds even more weird in my mind than the captaincy, at least they have the celebrity for that…

Pavel Brendl!

Those Hockey News predictions on his upside were true! They just got the wrong league!

Also, I can now brag to the other Devils bloggers that I found out where Ray Giroux is. Next target: Sean Brown.

Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!

I saw Brendl play a lot in the WHL, and he was phenomenal. His attitude was always horrible, however.
