Goaltenders: Who's up and who's down?

Following up on the post on the most improved forwards this season, here's a look at which goaltending have improved their save percentages the most through the first one-third of the season:

5  Brent Johnson  WAS  19 0.908   14 0.922   0.014
6  Alex Auld  OTT  32 0.907   20 0.920   0.013

10  Cam Ward  CAR  69 0.904   19 0.912   0.008

On the flip side, here's a look at the biggest disappointments:

2007-08 2008-09
Name Team GP  SV%    GP  SV%  Diff
1  Pascal Leclaire  COB  54 0.919 11 0.876   -0.043
2  Chris Osgood  DET  43 0.914   18 0.876   -0.038
3  Marty Turco  DAL  62 0.909 26 0.881   -0.028
4  Erik Ersberg  LOS  14 0.927   16 0.903   -0.024
5  Fredrik Norrena  COB  37 0.896   5 0.872   -0.024
6  Manny Legace  STL  66 0.911 16 0.889   -0.022
7  Jose Theodore  WAS  53 0.910   16 0.888   -0.022
8  Dan Ellis  NAS  44 0.924   21 0.903   -0.021
9  Ty Conklin  DET  33 0.923 12 0.902 -0.021
10  Mathieu Garon  EDM  47 0.913 10 0.894   -0.019

Good for Roloson, who hasn't gotten a lot of pub outside of Edmonton for his strong recent play. I heard him say the other night that he'd like to pull a Chelios and keep on playing for a few more years, which would be pretty impressive.

It's no secret Leclaire, Osgood and Turco have all really struggled so far.

I know I'm proabaly being overly critical...

but I really think that Legace’s fall is a major reason the Blues are in the situation they are in, certainly in the top three reasons…he hasn’t been as bad as Leclaire, but he’s not that far off where Turco and Osgood are.

Supposedly, Manny wanted a contract extension from the Blues, and they turned him down, because, with his bum knee, they wanted to see what was going on, plus they have Mason this year and next and Bishop and Allen coming up…I have read at least a couple of places where this has really gotten in his head and it seems to have affected his performance…that’s too bad, because over the past two seasons, Manny has single handledly kept the Blues in many games they would not have been competitive…I’d hate to see him leave on a sour note.

Osgood/Conklin... Jimmy Howard

For all the talk out of camp about how they would like more seasoning for Howard at Grand Rapids, Osgood and Conklin aren’t exactly building brick walls back there. When are the Wings finally going to give this kid a shot? Shoot, even the other kid in GR, Larsson would be worth a look. It cant be worse than the sub .900 these guys are putting up. Osgood is fighting the puck terribly right now.
