Jokinen clears waivers

According to Lightning Strikes, Jussi Jokinen cleared waivers and will be playing for the team again. I think they used waivers to show Jokinen his 'true value' to the league and thus making him perform better.

My problem with this is that The Avalanche really could've used him. At the moment, we have Tyler "Open net? where?" Arnason as our 2nd line center and even though his face-offs are improving, he's really dragging his teammates (mainly Wolski) down.

Did Jussi clear waivers because there's some sort of GM protocol and it would be rude to claim him, or does every team think he won't improve the roster? I know he has a 1.8M cap hit but I think he's more than worth that. He's proved that in Dallas.

Anyone else who would've liked him on their favourite team?

Toronto

I am not entirely sure why the Leafs didn’t take a flyer on him either. It’s definitely a head scratcher that he has gotten through without getting picked up.

Jussi

is one of those frustrating players that has all kinds of talent but very little work ethic. He’s extremely weak on the puck, not great in the corners, and not nearly as good as you would think in his own end. Give him open ice and all kinds of time and he can dazzle you ( a la the shootout), but in, you know, actual game situations – he’s basically a mediocre second liner as of now.

If he ever “gets it” he could be a decent top line LW or a damn good second line center… not sure if that’s ever gonna happen though.

Yeah and?

The Avs could use a mediocre second liner for their third line

I don’t think that’s the case at all. A lot of teams are close to the cap and would have had to shift guys around to fit Jokinen.

Plus there’s a reason that Jokinen got waived….By Tampa Bay of all teams.
