What you missed over the holidays: The Top 7 in 7
Hope your holidays were swell. I'm back on the clock here at From The Rink, and will be live blogging tomorrow's Winter Classic beginning an hour before the game. SBN will have three bloggers at the game, and there'll be some great coverage at both our Blackhawks and Red Wings blogs.
I don't know about you, but I wasn't able to catch nearly as many NHL games the past week as I normally do, and felt like coming up with a bit of a refresher. Here's a look at the top performances by players in the week of Dec. 23-29:
Top 7 Skaters
- Alex Ovechkin: five goals, one assist, two game winners, 28 shots
- John-Michael Liles: three goals, four assists
- Ryan Smyth: two goals, five assists
- Bryan Little: six goals
- James Neal: four goals, one assist
- Nicklas Backstrom: six assists
- Ryan Malone: one goal, four assists, +5
Top 7 Goaltenders
- Jon Quick: two wins, 0.76 GAA, .970 sv%, 2 SO
- Steve Mason: two wins, 1.00 GAA, .965 sv%, 2 SO
- Evgeni Nabokov: two wins, 0.98 GAA, .967 sv%, 1 SO
- Tim Thomas: two wins, 1.00 GAA, .964 sv%, 1 SO
- Miikka Kiprusoff: three wins, 2.35 GAA, .920 sv%
- Scott Clemmensen, one win, 1.35 GAA, .946 sv%
- Mike Smith: three wins, 2.27 GAA, .903 sv%, 1 SO

He just missed the cut, I suppose, but Jose Theodore was 4-0-0/2.33/.915 over that span, and that includes the three goals on six shots he allowed in the first of those twelve-plus periods.

Brendan Morrison I guess just missed the cut, too. 4g, 1a. Compared to his results prior to this past week, it’s a huge step forward.

Doh. I’m not including last night’s games in this as that would be an eight-day look. Will change my phrasing.

Smyth and Liles really carried the team lately, since losing Stastny and Sakic.

Relying on someone from St. Cloud State is never a good idea, whether it’s hockey or not.
