Injury bug hits the Bruins

It's been quite a first half for Boston, but now comes some of that ol' adversity we hear so much about.

After losing defenceman Aaron Ward Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over the Habs (extending the Bruins' lead in the Northeast Division to 12 points), Boston leads the NHL in most players in the infirmary with eight:

 Boston Bruins
Phil Kessel RW Jan 12, 2009 Injured Reserve Mononucleosis
 Shane Hnidy D Jan 8, 2009 Day-to-Day Eye
Milan Lucic LW Jan 8, 2009 Day-to-Day Undisclosed Injury
Patrice Bergeron C Dec 21, 2008 Injured Reserve Concussion
Marco Sturm LW Dec 20, 2008 Out for season
Knee Injury
Andrew Ference D Nov 18, 2008 Injured Reserve Fractured Right Tibia

Manny Fernandez rounds out this group with what his coach is calling "general soreness."

So he'll be back.

Sturm is finished for the season, and I imagine it's likely Bergeron is, too. Against Montreal, Chara led the way with 32 minutes ice time (!), followed by Wideman with 31, Savard with 21:22 and Krejci at just more than 20.

Now on the roster are a host of callups, from Byron Bitz to Martins Karsums and Martin St. Pierre. None of the three topped 10 minutes, as Claude Julien leaned heavily on his stars.

It'll be pretty interesting to see how long they can sustain their incredible season being down so many bodies. Lucic and Ference are expected back soon.

Couldn't Wheeler get hurt?

Or is he waiting for the day before the Bs game with Phoenix?

Yeah

I’m sure he’ll be so terrified by the thought of facing Ken Klee that he’ll fake an injury. Who wouldn’t?

I thought

Sauer was the resident head hunter on the Coyotes. I don’t think the Coyotes are worried about Wheeler, they are more concerned about winning the race to the bank machine to make sure the pay cheques don’t go boing….

They're not worried about either really.

They’re more worried about making the playoffs in reality. It was a joke.
