Gaborik opts for surgery

Minnesota Wild star Marian Gaborik will have surgery on his injured left hip. The Wild said on Friday that Gaborik is scheduled to have surgery on Monday and is expected to be sidelined about 10 weeks. The team called Gaborik's injury a "deficiency" in his hip that has caused his chronic left groin pain.

>> The Associated Press

There have been rumours of this for a little while now, but it's official. The Wild went 4-9-1 in December and are in a bit of a death spiral, and this is just more bad news.

Barring a miraculous recovery, Gaborik's almost certainly played his final game in Minnesota. And you have to wonder what his value will be as an unrestricted free agent this summer given his injury history.
