All-star weekend in pictures
There's a reason I'm not a photographer.
That said, I did take about 20 shots that aren't so blurry you can't make them out, and here they are with some captions. At the very least, they help set the scene:

The Bell Centre's an impressive venue. I didn't think I'd be wowed by a newish hockey rink given many seem to be cut from the same mould, but the sheer size of the Habs' home is pretty impressive.
And there's also the 550 square foot high definition screen on the 50,000-pound scoreboard, the largest in the league (it was installed in the off-season). In other words, it's about as big as a $300,000 condo in Toronto:

There were also some impressive displays outside of the rink, including giant NHL logos. Or LNH given we were in Quebec.

The arena's also known as Centre Bell in Montreal.
The 30 jerseys in ice were a nice touch, too. Fans were lining up to have their pictures taken with their favourite teams, but the Blues, Sharks and Coyotes sweaters didn't get much love.

My first thought after seeing them was: 'What if they melt?'
Then I remembered it was minus-15.
Inside the fan event tent were a variety of games, mostly aimed at small children, as well as an all-star garb boutique and an autograph area. The boutique was doing a booming business:

I'm not even sure Tim Thomas can afford his jersey, which was going for more than $270 after tax. Tuques and pucks were about $20 apiece, so there weren't many bargains.
I bought a beer mug for $15.
The Habs on hand for autographs on Sunday a few hours before game time were Josh Gorges and Matt D'Agostini. There was an incredible line snaking throughout the building and these fine people were at the front of it:

The guys were having a good time with the session:

In the Bell Centre, things got kind of wild given the number of media in attendance. Here's a look at an incredibly packed Eastern Conference dressing room after Saturday's open practice:
That's where the magic happened.
In a dressing room that full, you see some strange things. Like a barefoot Zdeno Chara wearing nothing but a towel, tip toeing around camera men and saying "skew-zie, skew-zie."
The Habs were popular with everybody:

This is as close as I could get to Mike Komisarek all weekend. He's a pretty quotable guy, and the press were all over him.
That's it in terms of quality shots. Unless you want to see me in my hotel room wearing the infamous fur hat they gave all of the media. That piece of fine journalism is right here.

The LNH just makes me giggle. Kinda like that Spongebob epi when it was opposite day.
Ain't nothing but puck drops and poke checks, babydoll.

Beat it twoeightnine. Mirtle, I’ll work for a Molson Dry king can and a cubby hole.
Don't be afraid to take a few steps back, but you better keep moving forward.

Assume you got the free bowl of soup with that hat
“Looks good on you, though.”
Nice pics. Thanks for sparing us the nothing-but-a-towel Chara shot.

Some of us might have liked the Chara-in-a-towel pic.
Nice pictures James and if you are ever in Ottawa and in need of a photog side-kick, drop me a line.

This is why I come here: moments of pure, brilliant journalism such as this. :)
Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.
