The all-star votes are in (and there are some weird ones)

Here are the final vote leaders in fan balloting (players in italics are the starters). There's quite a bit more love for Radek Smolenak than I was predicting:

I refuse to vote in these stupid popularity contests

I probably won’t watch the game either. I’ve been a die hard Wings fan since the Dead Wings era and I’m through with the All-Star game. Allowing a casual fan to vote for his/her entire team by texting in the team name was the final straw. I urge everyone who thinks this is as ridiculous as I do to call Gary Bettman during his weekly XM radio show and let him know.

Wont be watching either, as the ASG is perhaps the single most boring game on the entire schedule. Gimme Tampa-Isles any day over this. This year’s vote also further proves that the fans have no right determining the all-stars. Players who have no business being there (Komisarek, Giguere, Campbell) starting because some script kiddies rigged the vote?

Lost in all the controversy

Luongo scrapes into second despite being hurt for about two months, and likely ineligible to compete.

Where’s the outrage?

Well, he didn’t end up being elected a starter, and injured two months or not, an even less deserving goaltender was voted in ahead of him.

Exactly. No one will get all that upset about players that don’t get in.

Pretty comical that the NHL’s goal leader had to be written onto the ballot….

No kidding. Not surprising, though.
