More surgery for Sakic
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that captain Joe Sakic underwent successful surgery for a herniated disc and is expected to be out approximately 10 weeks.
"After weeks of rehabilitation, it was determined that surgery was the safest path to a complete recovery," said Avalanche Team Physician Andrew Parker. "This was our best option and the surgery went as expected."

It's been another very difficult year for Sakic, who may not be able to go out on his own terms given all of his injuries lately.

As a Wings fan, Sakic is one of (the only?) the few Avs players I actually respected and liked. It’s sad to see it end for him like this.

Sakic doesn’t deserve to end his career like this. He’s one of the all-time greats and deserves to go out Bourque-like.

Unfortunately, “deserve” has nothing to do with it. Poor guy.
I just hope when he does recover, he recovers fully – and even if he can’t play anymore he can still be healthy and pain-free. Backs are a tricky body part.

I kind of thought that he was trying to keep going to play one last time for the Canadian Olympic team in his hometown. At this rate, I don’t think he can do that anymore.

10 weeks from now places him roughly at the end of March. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back for the last week of the season or so, to wave goodbye.
