Eastern Conference all-stars announced

Here's a look at the reserves the NHL named to the Eastern Conference all-star team at noon today. Compared to the team I picked yesterday morning:

Notable differences on actual team: Alex Kovalev, Vinny Lecavalier, Eric Staal, Dany Heatley, Ilya Kovalchuk, Mike Komisarek, Mark Streit, Tomas Kaberle

Notable omissions that were on my team: Mike Richards, Daniel Alfredsson, Alexander Semin, Simon Gagne, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Dennis Wideman, Kimmo Timonen

Capitals and Flyers fans likely aren't all that happy, as the plethora of Habs and a goofy desire to represent even the crummiest teams means only Carter and Ovechkin represent two of the best offensive teams in the NHL. No Mike Green is insane, especially when this is supposed to be a skills showcase.

In terms of actual bodies, the NHL's Eastern team is closer to the one I picked than the Western one, but there are still eight different players and some noteworthy snubs.

I’m surprised Kessel wasn’t on your list, actually. How many 24 goal scorers at this point are not in the game?

Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

Ditto. Top 5 in scoring but not an all-star seems like a pretty big snub. No disrespect to Marc Savard, but of the two I would have expected Kessel to make it.

They’re close, that’s for sure. There are a ton of goofy omissions, really, but I think having only one Capital is the worst one.

I had four Bruins, so someone had to get the axe. Kessel was on the honourable mentions list, although Elias I think has had a better year.

Green was definitely the biggest snub, to be sure, but Richards was #2. He’s been better than he was last year, and he made it last year.

Swing by The Flyer Frequent if you have nothing better to do.
