KHL all-star game to be shown in U.S.
There is more hockey to be played on an outdoor rink from a historical site. Universal Sports presents live broadcast coverage of the first-ever Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) All-Star Game between Team Yashin and Team Jagr, this Saturday at 8 a.m. ET from Red Square in Moscow.
COVERAGE ON UNIVERSAL SPORTS: Universal Sports, available in 30 million homes, will present a live broadcast on its 24-hour television network from 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. ET and a same day encore presentation from 11:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. ET.
COVERAGE ON UNIVERSALSPORTS.COM:
Universal Sports will offer a free, global live webcast on UniversalSports.com starting 8:00 a.m. ET. The game will be available for on-demand viewing. COMMENTATORS: John Ahlers (play-by-play), the television voice of Anaheim Ducks and Brent Severyn (color commentator), Ducks radio analyst, will call all the action from the Universal Sports studio in Los Angeles.
>> press release
I had it confirmed that the webcast is available for free worldwide, so Canadian and European viewers will be able to catch this one if they wish. At the very least, the setting should be worth checking out.

Heh, I have no clue what it is. Something NBC does in partnership with another company.
The webcast is easy to find.

Actually...
It’s a channel run by NBC’s parent company, NBC Universal. The Universal part is from the movie studio Universal Pictures, which is also under the same umbrella.
Bay Area born and bred.

Damn. I’d be kind of excited to see a game from halfway around the world, but then to have John Ahlers call the game is an extreme buzzkill.
Severyn is awesome, though. I wish every year he would get promoted to TV so I could stop ignoring Hayward.

An outdoor rink in Red Square? Really? I mean, I remember there being a charity game for Igor Larionov’s retirement there a couple of years ago, but for an All-Star Game, that sounds too cool.
Too bad it’s at the ass-crack of dawn (6:00 MT).

The game is available in metropolitan New York
Digital cable customers of Cablevision/Optimum get the Universal Sports channel and it’s not on the special sports tier, which the NHL Network is on.
