Ryan making a case for Calder Trophy

Earl Sleek has the details at The Battle of California. Ryan is still eligible for the award given he played fewer than 25 games last season, and with 25 points in 24 games, he's on pace for about 67 points despite missing 18 games. Depending on what happens with Steve Mason in Columbus, Ryan could be your winner as he's going to get plenty of opportunities to score in Anaheim.

It helps that he may have scored the goal of the year last night in posting a hat trick.

It would be pretty funny if the Calder winner wasn’t invited to the YoungStars game. Especially since they invited a boatload of forwards (compared to the other positions).

It helps that he may have scored the goal of the year last night in posting a hat trick.

I think it’s worth noting that was Ryan’s third straight goal in 2:21 of game time. You’d think there’d be some extra coverage on the kid after being burned twice already in short succession.

yowza

what a goal. simple but beautiful.

I would think it’s between Ryan, Mason, and Versteeg for the Calder. Mason would obviously win it if he keeps this up.

Notes on Bobby Ryan’s hat trick:

Ryan’s three goals in a span of 2:21 were the fastest in club history. The previous mark was held by Teemu Selanne, who scored a hat trick in 12:18 on Nov.10, 1997 against San Jose.

It was the fastest three goals by an NHL rookie since 1938, when Detroit’s Carl Liscombe pulled off the feat against Chicago in 1:52.

Oh, so it’s only been 70 years.
