The Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bears announced today a historic partnership between the two franchises, marking the first of its kind between an Original Six National Hockey League team and a founding franchise of the National Football League.
The cross-branding promotional initiative includes commercials, representation inside the United Center and Soldier Field during home games for each team and a wealth of other activities. The five sets of commercials that will be released this fall feature one Blackhawks player and one Bears player, emphasizing the mutual support between each organization and the city of Chicago. Blackhawks Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook and Brian Campbell will join forces with Bears Jay Cutler, Devin Hester, Robbie Gould, Lance Briggs and Greg Olsen in these spots.

I think marketing the NHL to NFL fans is a very good idea. The violence and guts in both sports attract the same sorts of fans.

Isnt it funny how many in Chicago don't want this
There is a group of “true” fans, mostly of the Roenick/Chelios era, that hate the marketing and want things to go back to the way they were (also known as losing). Insane.

Are they opposed to winning, or are they opposed to change? In any case, I can’t see how this is a bad thing for the ‘Hawks, even from a traditionalist’s perspective. If the Oilers and Eskimos entered a joint marketing venture together, I’d be fine with it.

Part of “change” is the internet, television, beer in cans, and indoor plumbing. Point that out and they might be less reluctant to accept it. :)
