Team Canada goes green for WJC

Image_828e9611adde12a70d9f79f484e187e9_medium

Hockey Canada announced on Saturday that Canada’s National Junior Team will wear green jerseys during the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship, in honour of Saskatchewan’s love affair with the CFL’s Roughriders and as a salute to the province. Also, the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship will mark the first time the tournament has returned to Canadian cities (Regina and Saskatoon) for a second time.

And I thought I'd seen everything in a Team Canada jersey.

This is obviously the equivalent of a third jersey in the NHL, just another souvenir to sell. Apparently Canada will only wear it once during the actual tournament, which begins on Dec. 26, so I can't see there being much harm done.

This year the tournament's in Saskatchewan, next year it heads to Buffalo and then for 2012, it'll be in Calgary and Edmonton. I have a feeling attendance won't be a problem at any of those destinations, but you wonder when they'll bite the bullet and head back overseas with this thing.

It sort of reminds me of those old green tailfins on Air Canada jets. I liked those too.

That might just be the ugliest team Canada jersey ever. That said, it will be popular with the banjo picking inbred crowd.

Why’d you bring Alberta into this?

Heh.

I gotta say, the Banjo Bowl has gotten a lot more interesting since Troy Westwood made that comment. Hope Canada does well at this tournament though. Rider fans might drop a load of manure on Desjardins’ front lawn if we lose.

Dammit Resolute, I’m an exile in San Diego and that still hurts…especially because I like the jersey!

Go Riders!

I still give that honor to the yellow World Cup jerseys that managed to alter the battle-tested hue of the Bruins and Penguins jerseys just enough to look like urine instead of gold.

Have you seen the jerseys Boston is wearing for the Winter Classic? Ugh—ly.

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

As a Bruins fan, sadly yes. It reminds me of the urine effect, and then there’s the cartoon B for good measure.

by Malurous on Oct 26, 2009 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The cartoon B is based on the 25th-anniversary logo the team used in 1949. I like it, personally.

Yeah, I know where it’s from. That doesn’t make it much better in my eyes, but it’s nice that it works for someone. Frankly, the logo is a bit minor-league but my bigger issue is with the color hue.

I like the hue of this jersey better than the Winnie the Pooh third they wore back in the late 90s.

They can play Brass Bonanza during intermissions.

The Seattle Thunderbirds already do that, though.

So the tournament begins the day after Christmas? This jersey is just getting in the spirit of things, then.

Heh, good point.

True. But do we have to look like the tree?

Not a big fan

What happens if they ever have this tournament in Brampton.
Well there be a South East Asia look and feel to the jersey.
What if the uniform has to reflect the part of Canada it is being held in.
Oh boy watch out for when the tourney is in Vancouver again- we will have hemp made shirts.

This is a bad precedent that is only being done to sell more shirts locally.
Still better then any Nashville or Atlanta Thrasher shirt ever worn.

At least there’d still be a leaf on it.

Looking forward to the wife beater jersey for games played in Edmonton in 2012….

Or the cow manure-stained denim jersey for the Calgary (medal-round) games.

Don’t worry, it’ll sell. They all sell.

I've seen enough to know that I've seen too much.
