In a memo to the league's 30 player reps, Penny accused Chelios, a supporter of Kelly who tried to stop the middle-of-the-night vote to oust Kelly, of using union staffers to spy on other union officials.
Penny wrote: "This completely inappropriate conduct has created a hostile, fractured and distrustful work environment. It is the type of environment that exists in repressive, totalitarian regimes -- not work places."

Dear Penny
Hyperbole much?

No doubt. And marathon conference calls designed to wear down the participants are a trademark of democratic institutions Ian.

You’re just jealous. I’m practically begging for the opportunity to work repressive, totalitarian regime into one of my reports.

Wow, sounds like the union is getting worse by the day!
Have to say that they may need to get rid of EVERYONE and start from scratch? They can’t go into the next CBA negotiations with Bettman as a fractured group else they are gonna really get creamed(again-?)
I find sometimes it's easy to be myself
sometimes I find it's better to be somebody else

get rid of EVERYONE and start from scratch
Careful, now, that’s the type of approach you find in repressive, totalitarian regimes…

Actually, That seems to be exactly what Penny and his group seem to want. Funny how every time someone crosses Penny, they get accused of being a spy. They then go before an inquisition before a summary execution.
Penny is behaving like a dictator.

Did Penny come from the CAW?
That sounds like the delusional comments Buzz Hargrove and company used to make when negotiating with the Little Three.

“Repressive, totaliarianism regimes”???
LUXURY!!!!!
I remember when I was a young fellow, I had to wake up for work a half hour before I went to bed, work 29 hours a day, post every one of my emails up on a 60 foot billboard on Times Square for the world to see, pay the union twelve dollars an hour for the privilege of working there, allow each one of my fellow employees to give me an atomic wedgie every hour on the hour, allow myself to be sexually harassed by Harold in accounting, and get fired for cause at the end of every day.
And that was on a good day.

Clearly, he hasn’t worked some of the places I have. The same “type of environment that exists in repressive, totalitarian regimes” was standard operating procedure. :)

For some reason, I feel compelled to take the word of Chris Chelios over the word of Ian Penny.

For all his abrasive personality, he seems to care about PA issues and take them very seriously.

Can someone please tell me what Chelios has to do with the PA, now that he is no longer a member? How can he still be Detroit’s player rep, if he’s playing in the AHL?
I've seen enough to know that I've seen too much.

The PA could appoint Peewee Herman to help review the union if it wanted.

I’m sure they tried.
