The Niedermayer stick fight

This one's making the rounds, but just in case you missed it:

Pretty sad. I feel bad for Scotty here, actually, as his good deed turns into something real ugly. Would love to know who the parties here are and what they thought was happening.

Wyshynski has more.

LA Times coverage:

The Anaheim Ducks said today in a statement, "Following the incident last night, the Anaheim Police Department questioned the individuals involved and filed a police report. The Ducks cannot comment on any further action that may be taken at this time. As an organization, we do not condone or tolerate this type of behavior, and will treat this case accordingly."

To follow this up, one of the fighters was identified as Mike Vallely, a professional skateboarder of some renown who formerly had a blog on the Ducks official website:

The Ducks severed promotional ties Friday with professional skateboarder Mike Vallely after Vallely (below) was involved in a fracas in the stands of Honda Center in Thursday night’s game.

Mike Vallely, also known as "Mike V," was arrested, cited for fighting in public and released for his involvement in the incident, according to Sgt. Rick Martinez of the Anaheim Police Department.

Hahaha that’s hilarious. I can’t remember the details but one time a baseball player threw a ball to a little kid in the crowd; some jackass reached in front of him and stole it, then said jackass started celebrating while the little kid cried. It was really funny.

A Homer Simpson quote seems appropriate here:

“To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.”

Luongo does the same thing here in Vancouver. Never seen anything like that result from it though …

Honestly

The way he points at the lady next to the fighting couple, it looked to me like he was giving it to the mom of the little girl there, and that couple next to them, for some reason, thought it was for them (when it clearly wasn’t).

That said… this is pretty funny.

That was pretty disgusting when you think about it. It amazes me how humans can resort to that level of stupidity, I mean, fighting over a hockey stick? A cheap hockey stick thrown by Scott Neidermayer, really? Funny to those who witnessed it, embarrassing to those involved in it.

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

In related news, the blonde chick throwing haymakers is the reason why I’m hesitant on picking up women at hockey games. All it takes is one thrown hockey stick into the crowd for a black eye and no second date.

All teams do this now...

The stick was the customary mini stick that the three stars give to the crowd. I know some teams, maybe all, have the player sign it before tossing it over the boards. With how stupid humanity is, I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner. Just think how stupid people act when there are $2 T-shirts shot into the crowd by those lame arena crew jerks. People will fight over a crappy paper thin T-shirt that is probably a quadruple XL with a silkscreened logo on the front.

Was that Prime Ticket interview also on the scoreboard? I’m wondering why he left the fight instead of trying to talk people down, or at least waiting for security to get there, to make sure the intended party got his stick; maybe he was trying to shame them in front of the rest of the crowd.

My guess is that he skated away to take the spotlights off of them — he really couldn’t do much it seems from his side of the glass.

But yeah, they do sort of run the audio of the post-game interviews through the loud speakers. Can’t say it’s that effective, though — I never make out very much.

If you watch after one lady emerges with the stick he points at her and lets her know that’s who it was intended for.

Or that’s what I saw.
