Émond’s Montreal Blitz was trailing the Filon de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 3-0 early in the third period when he tried to swing around defenceman Maxime Tremblay. Tremblay dropped his stick while trying to defend his zone, and Émond stepped on it as he was skating past, causing him to stumble. At the same moment, Tremblay gave Émond a desperate push in the back – kind of like a short-track speed-skater doing the relay – sending him flying into the boards.

The hit cracked the fifth and sixth vertebrae at the base of Émond’s neck, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. In an instant, the dreams and hopes of a promising young hockey player who looked to have a bright future in the sport were dashed.

Calling all West Islanders

Tonight at 6 PM, at the Kirkland Arena, a game between the LSL Royals and LSL Tigers will feature a silent auction to benefit Marc-Andre Emond.

If you want to see elite Midget hockey for free, featuring those of your neighbors who have the best chance at being drafted in 2012-2013, then why not swing by the boul. Hymus rink a little early and try to win whatever it is they will have to bid on. I don’t know what those items might include, but chances are you’ll be able to get your hands on some wicked donated Habs gear, while supporting Emond and his family.

Showing your support for the kid, while getting to watch better-than-University-level competitive hockey for free, would be a lot better use of a Tuesday night, than throwing your $20+ at James Cameron’s latest $300M masterbatory explosion orgy at Kirkland’s Colisee.

So sad...

incredible really that this doesn’t happen more often. Best wishes to the kid, glad to see he has such a positive attitude.
