Excited to see who the Americans and Canadians pick, but I think the most interesting thing will be Russia’s squad. I want to see if Tretiak really gets a 50-50 KHL-NHL split and how that affects who goes and who stays home.

James, will your picks be a prediction or a “if I were running the show…” type of thing?

I’ll have the team I would pick, but I’ll offer comments on what will be different on the actual team.

Team Russia Roster

The Russians have stated that they won’t be naming the complete roster on Dec. 25, IIHF be damned. I imagine they’ll name a portion of it (the NHLers) that day and the remainder sometime in Feb. Tretiak has also backed off the 12/12 split. I imagine ultimately you’ll see something close to:

ovechkin – malkin – semin
kovalchuk – datsyuk – frolov
zaripov – zinovjev – morozov
saprykin – tereschenko – radulov

markov – nikulin
tyutin – gonchar
volchenkov – grebeshkov
kalinin – proshkin

nabokov
bryzgalov
varlamov

Saprykin? The Russians aren’t that thin on the left side, are they?

The anticipation of it all...

I can’t wait to see what the rosters of the powerhouses from Latvia, Belarus, and Norway look like!

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

You dare to mock the fourth-place team from 2002? Such hubris!

Fightin' Belarussians...

I wonder if both Grabovski and Sergei Kostitsyn will make the team today? I guess if they had to go with only one, they should take the guy who’s been with an NHL team all year long. But I gotta think they aren’t in any position to turn down talented players.

Go Belarus!

I really hope that Sergei Zubov makes Team Russia. It’ll be the only time I get to see him play, because I miss him.
