NHL players on Twitter
I've been meaning to write something on NHLers and Twitter for a few weeks now, an article that finally came together this weekend for The Globe. For whatever reason, hockey players are miles behind some of the stars in other sports when it comes to social networking, but there have been some gains the past few months and it looks like that's something we'll continue to see.
Leading the way on that front has been agent Allan Walsh, who has started many of his clients — including Martin Havlat, Patrik Elias and David Perron — on Twitter.
Perron, the 21-year-old winger from the Blues, is the player I focused on because he's easily been one of the most prolific players on there, answering hundreds of questions from fans since the season started. Here's a Q&A I did with him last week.
And, finally, here's the list of NHL players and personnel I came up with. If there are others I missed, let me know:
NHLers on Twitter: Colby Armstrong, Dan Boyle, Donald Brashear, Mike Commodore, Riley Cote, Patrik Elias, Dan Ellis, Eric Fehr, Bruno Gervais, Mike Green, Martin Havlat, Alex Ovechkin, David Perron, Alexander Steen, Steve Sullivan, Maxime Talbot, Brad Winchester, Brendan Witt
Retired players on Twitter: Matt Barnaby, Valeri Bure, Tom Chorske, Wendel Clark, Tie Domi, Bret Hedican, Kelly Hrudey, Trevor Linden, Troy Murray, Mark Smith, Bryan Trottier, Kevin Weekes
NHL staff on Twitter: Gary Bettman, Mike DiLorenzo
Agents on Twitter: Jay Grossman, Ben Hankinson, Chris McAlpine, Allan Walsh

Has Bettman updated since first very first tweet?

Are these twitter accounts real?
Sidney Crosby: http://twitter.com/iamcrosby
Evgeni Malkin: http://twitter.com/realgeno71
this is supposedly Max Talbot: http://twitter.com/Max25talbot
this is AHL-er and WBS Penguin Eric Tangradi: http://twitter.com/EricTangradi
the Sid and Geno ones are fake.
Two more that are probably fake, but should be checked out:
Steven Stamkos: http://twitter.com/stevenstamkos
John Tavares: http://twitter.com/j0hntavares

Stamkos is fake
And Tavares — his fake account popped up at the draft. He announced Duchene was going #1.

This is a different Tavares account from the one used during the draft.

Capital Eric Fehr is now on Twiiter: http://twitter.com/EricFehr16
and I assume to absolutely no one’s surprise, so is owner Ted Leonsis.
The Caps are ahead of the curve on this technology thing as compared with the rest of the league. Well, maybe except for the Sharks.

I think that one was fake. I read something about it on hockeybuzz.

I wouldn’t trust HB as far as I can throw it. It’s probably legit.
SNN Sports - A theoretical Oilers blog (i.e. theoretically, I write stuff there). Link now 100% less broken.
If Hockeybuzz says it's fake
doesn’t that mean it’s real? The internet scares me.

Curtis Leschyshyn is on as well

Hmmm… I didn’t anticipate this devolving into a list of who’s fake and who’s not. Guess I’m naive.
