Here come the Pred Wings fans

Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators, Feb 28, 2009 7:00 PM CST

Just a really quick update from Nashville this morning.

I just caught the Predators morning skate, which was pretty leisurely as far as these things go. I counted five defencemen and about eight or nine forwards in attendance, and the majority were off the ice after less than half an hour. Netminder Pekka Rinne left the ice after only a couple drills, which leads me to believe he'll be in goal tonight looking for his fourth win in a row.

The Red Wings were scheduled to skate soon afterward, but I didn't stick around. Ty Conklin is expected to start for Detroit, which won last night over the Kings with Chris Osgood in goal.

With so many displaced Michiganers in the area, Red Wings games are as big a hockey event here in Tennessee as you can get. We've been hearing a lot about so-called 'Pred Wings' fans -- those who cheer for Nashville for all games but those against Detroit -- and I've been told that about one-third of those in attendance will be wearing the winged wheel.

Should be fun.

Preds blogger Dirk Hoag, who I had a chance to meet up with yesterday for the first time, has his game-day preview over at On The Forecheck.

Looks like the Sommet Center is packed and the home team is taking care of business, should feel great in there.

I think I saw that guy in the centre in an SNL “Da Bearse” sketch.
