An excellent, powerful story by the Calgary Herald's Bruce Dowbiggin about former Flames tough guy Brantt Myhres. Make no mistake: It's a very difficult way to make a living.

"If they say there's no premeditation to these fights, they're wrong. Most of the heavyweights have it premeditated and if you see, most heavyweights get it done within the first 10 minutes. And they're all the same as me, they want it over with."

With all due respect to Dowbiggin, his stance on fighting is well-known. Trying to tie Myhers’ sad story into an anti-fighting argument seems like a stretch here.

The story of Myhers has been written before, and it’s one worth telling. I’d like to see more of these sorts of profiles on guys who played the game. But I could do without the cracks about NHL GM sipping orange juice in the sun, as if the only possible reason for disagreeing with Dowbiggin is not caring.

Down Goes Brown - Unapologetically nostalgic for the past. Brutally realistic about the present. Grudgingly optimistic about the future.
