Blackhawks freeze ticket prices

Today, Chicago announced that it would become the latest in a long line of teams to keep ticket prices level heading into next season.

"Chicago Blackhawks fans are unique in that they have remained loyal to our team through many seasons of challenge," Blackhawks Chairman W. Rockwell “Rocky” Wirtz said. "We are incredibly grateful of this support and recognize that during these challenging times, we are acting in the best interests of our fans and our community by keeping our season ticket prices flat for the 2009-10 season. With a solid record for the current season, contention for playoff play and a team of young stars, the Chicago Blackhawks are well-positioned to be a force in Chicagoland professional sports for many years to come. With much gratitude to all of our fans, we look forward to providing an exciting and winning tradition well into the future."

The Blackhawks' success at the gate this season has been staggering. Chicago's sold out all 30 home games and is averaging more than 22,000 fans per game. They'll likely break some all-time records for single-season attendance figures at this rate.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know of a reference somewhere comparing all 30 teams average ticket prices or something like that?
I’d be interested to know how teams compare to one another in terms of ticket prices…

The info is at www.teammarketing.com/fancost/nhl. The pdf file shows average ticket cost per team and average price of premium tickets.

“we are acting in the best interests of our fans”

That’s refreshing.

Shut up when you're talking to me!

I assume he refers to the 5,000 guys who still showed up three or four years ago.

For good reason. Their ticket prices increased significantly this season. Some seats experienced an 85% increase. On top of that, Winter Classic ticket prices were out of hand.

Don't be afraid to take a few steps back, but you better keep moving forward.

1) Can’t talk for all the venues on the list, but the rinks we’ve been to this year compared with those published prices don’t mesh. For instance hot dogs are NOT $2.50 in D.C. and beer is $7.50 not 4.50

The Blackhawks resurgence in the wake of Wirtz’s death is the only thing that gives me hope for my Detroit Lions.

Die already, Ford!!!

Perhaps Lions fans should take up collections for a hitman. I bet Bruce Dowbiggin would throw in $20.
