Artyukhin pummels Peltonen
I got a big chuckle out of this one: 254-pound behemoth Evgeni Artyukhin for some reason got into a scrap with Ville Peltonen on Saturday. The Lightning forward outweighs the little Finn by about 75 pounds.
And this was Peltonen's first career fight:
I knew there had to be something more going on here, and it turns out there is. Here's Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune:
At the opening faceoff, Florida RW Ville Peltonen, listed at 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, immediately dropped his gloves and went after Bolts RW Evgeny Artyukhin, who goes 6-5, 259. The bout stemmed from a knee-on-knee hit Artyukhin put on Peltonen in the last meeting between the teams on Jan. 17 in Tampa. Artyukhin received a two-game suspension for the hit.
He showed him, I guess.
George Richards talked to the Panthers coach about the tussle:
"That guy's three times the size of Ville," Peter DeBoer said with a smirk. "Obviously, he was going to try to settle the score and send a message from the hit the last time. Give Ville all the credit in the world for that. That's a big guy he took on."
I'm going to go on record and say this is the most lopsided fight in hockey history. Peltonen's one of the 60 smallest players in the league; Artyuhkin's listed as the NHL's sixth heaviest player. (Yes, there are five guys who weigh more than 254 pounds.)

The threat of fights is going to prevent cheap shots.

Also shows Peltonen is a team player. Didn’t go for a cheap shot or crosscheck or something of that nature to put his team on the penalty kill. It takes guts to go up against a guy twice your size. It would have been very easy for him not to do anything.
I think this fight actually makes Artyukhin look even worse, because the guy rarely answers the bell by fighting a guy his own size after his cheap shots. Gutless player.

Peltonen's awesome.
That’s hilarious. Also, Artyukhin’s a jackass.

I hope that is sarcasm James. There have been so many more lopsided fights. Gillies vs Hospodar is the first that comes to mind. Three punches and Hospodar has a broken jaw. At least Peltonen made it through without anything broken.

In terms of weight class, I mean. Find me a more lopsided bout than a 75-pound advantage!

1) Don’t know about the weight difference, but in the 1970’s both Stan Jonathan and Gary Howatt (both generously listed as 5’ 8") used to tangle with guys 6+ inches taller.
