Bruins acquire Montador for Nokelainen

The Boston Bruins have just sent forward Petteri Nokelainen to the Anaheim Ducks for defenceman Steve Montador.

This is a great move for the Bruins, who add an underrated, experienced depth defenceman in Montador. This is a signal Anaheim has become a seller, as Nokelainen is a prospect who has been playing less than 10 minutes a game on Boston's fourth line.

He’s no Chris Pronger, but this is still good for the Bruins.
Even though I thought they were looking for an offensive minded blueliner…

Here’s a piece I wrote on Steve Montador back in December. Solid, solid player.

Yea it’s a decent pick up for defense depth, but Chiarelli better have some freakin scoring in mind as far as those other “depth trades” he’s been mentioning.

Huh? Aren’t the Bruins the highest scoring team in the league, or close to?

Montador’s solid and a good all-around player. This is a nice move from a Bruins standpoint, as they’d probably have to give up more for Morris. I really like Noke, but his offensive improvement hasn’t really been there so there’s probably little room for him in the future. Still, if he gets that part of his game together, the Ducks could have a very good player in their hands.

Good luck in Anaheim Nokie. He is really getting a tour of the US the last two years.

Indeed they are. But lets face it, since the halfway mark of the season there has been a noticable lack of grit and scoring in the B’s. Would be nice to see someone come in and spark that up, because they have been just as tight defensively thus far. No real need to focus on D more than O.
