More magic from Ovechkin
I love the roar from the crowd after he puts it though Morris's legs. Beautiful goal.
This game was more of what we all expected from this series, I think. Well, everyone except the monkey. And Stan Fischler.
Game 6 goes Sunday afternoon, and I bet NBC will be happy with their ratings for that one. Here's hoping the Caps can setup a beauty of a Game 7.

One of the best games ever at Verizon.

It wasn’t the best game at Verizon this month. The Miami/BU NCAA final was amazing.

That was something right out NHL09
To think , the best is yet to come from Ovechkin. I can’t even fathom what that could be!

Is it backchecking?
I bet it’s not!

Must be nice to have a player on your team that competes for 60 minutes a night AND has talent.

Morris should win the Lady Byng…he was undressed so delicately it brought tears to my eyes.

The NHL needs to market this guy
I am just getting into hockey really this year and this guy is one of the reasons. He is insane.

And the worst part?
The goal shouldn’t have happened as Fedorov slew footed Zherdev. But that is what happens in the modern NHL, big infractions aren’t called while nickel dime hooks and holds change the course of games.

Zherdev doesn't deserve any calls
Sometimes you’ve got to earn your calls. Name one thing Zherdev did last night other than skate aimlessly, turn the puck over, or shy away from physical contact. Federov shouldn’t have been penalized by the standard of what was being called last night, the refs let the players play for once. Consider the situation also—a brilliant play by Ovechkin isn’t going to be overturned in a game where the Rangers were already down 3-0 and had no chance to win. If Federov had injured Zherdev he would’ve done the Rangers a favor.
Zherdev has been abysmally bad for the Rangers for over two months now—when does he snap out of it? They needed him to show up last night, and he didn’t. Neither did Scott Gomez or Markus Naslund. This team looked like the February version of the Rangers last night, before Torts’ arrival. No heart at all on this team last night besides Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Callahan, and Brandon Dubinsky.

“He was playing poorly” isn’t really an excuse to allow him to be fouled, but the possible penalty was off in the corner of the screen so I didn’t get a good look. Furthermore, there would’ve been no play by Ovechkin had the penalty been called because the whistle would’ve gone before he hit the red line.

the rangers
got away with a ton of penalties last night – both of the “nickle dime” varieties and the real varities. Get over it.

So if the goal was waved off the Rangers would’ve won the game?
by drhgzang on Apr 25, 2009 11:03 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No the Rags wouldn’t have won, but that doesn’t justify a non-call. I don’t think it was a PIM. I thought if anything it was an arguable hook but I think Zherdev was so weak on the puck he just fell over. If it was a penalty it should have been called, even if it would have robbed us of one of the best highlights of the season.

I saw three replays, and you can clearly see Fedorov kick his leg out. It certainly was a penalty, no matter how badly Z sucks.

That’s not necessarily a slew foot. His foot comes up a bit and maybe he trips him but he has no leverage on the front shoulder to bring him down. Fedorov was entirely behind Zherdev. I could definitely see it being called but I don’t think it’s a slew foot and I don’t think it is as clear cut as you think it is.

A truly international undressing; two Canadians, an American, and a Swede. Nobody can accuse OV of discriminating.

Amazing goal, but lets also give some credit to Varlamov, who has allowed 3 goals in 4 games, but has only come out with 2 wins because of that.

This was so frustrating to listen to on the radio while driving. Especially when the announcers said, “Watch SportsCenter…go online…whatever you have to do to see this one.” Great goal.

This Goal...
Ovie’s goal, although it was completely in a different context, reminded me of the one Drury scored in ’06 of the Semis against the Rangers to tie it with 7.7 seconds left. It killed them, and they lost the series…
Yikes.

Based on analytical capability I think the monkey evolved from Stan Fischler. The next time someone gives me a reasonable explanation as to why that guy has a job will be the first.
