Lightning furniture on Craigslist
A good little find by John over at Raw Charge: Apparently the Tampa Bay Lightning have begun selling some furniture items on Craigslist, including this nifty trophy case (trophy replicas not included) for $300. There are believed to be more items available on the site, although the fact they're coming from the Lightning isn't exactly trumpeted in the ads and I can't say I'd recognize Jay Feaster's office chair if I saw it.
John has some solid thoughts on this:
"OK Hockey's reputation, however, makes it difficult to put away the tin foil hat and not think this has some link to financial troubles. They have cut tenured staff in cost savings attempts, are now charging building employees to park at the Forum, and the group has gotten the proverbial vote of confidence in its finances from Gary Bettman (such votes of confidence are usually tell-tale signs of trouble in the sports world). Tack on the recent stories about ownership looking for investors and it's really hard not to speculate."
Ultimately, it's only an old curio cabinet on sale on the 'net, so it may not mean much – even for the tinfoil hat crowd. For the sake of Tampa fans, hopefully it's not another sign the ownership group is hard up for cash – and the St. Pete Times Forum will remain furniture-filled come the fall.

Increasing numbers of rummage sales in neighborhoods are seen as a bad economic indicator – a sign that people are selling the contents of their house so they have a better chance of keeping the house itself.
Or it might be that they got tired of bumping into it and figured they’d be better off getting a few bucks for it instead of jsut leaving it at the curb for large item pickup.
If they are that hard up for money … just wow. I hope they don’t have to resort to selling the Stanley Cup banner. :(

I wouldn’t be over it if I were you. Shit, I’m not over it and I’m the last person who actually wanted it to happen.

Hell
About 8 Leafs blogs dedicated yesterday to the Kerry Fraser screw job and he only theoretically cost us a Stanley Cup.

That’s the funny thing too… The apparent Gelinas goal not counting doesn’t really piss me off. Its a fast moving game, and by the time anyone realized it should have been reviewed, it was already too late. But Fraser’s idiotic officiating in game 4 of that final that handed Tampa the only goal in a 1-0 game on a silver platter is the one that really pisses me off from that series.
Honestly, just by the looks in the eyes of people leaving the Dome that game… if we were Montreal or Vancouver, there would have been a riot. And Fraser would have required police protection to get out of the building.

You know, it’s not as much fun to make fun of your team if you’re going to join in

Exactly. I was searching for a 1967 joke, but then PPP goes and steals the thunder. Bastard.

I hear Balsillie’s offered $512.
That offer was contingent on Balsille being able to move the trophy case to Southern Ontario.

The trophy case relocation issue has been tied up in the courts due to a dispute involving other trophy case owners wanting exclusive rights to own them.

I’d like Judge Judy to settle this moving the team nonsense. She’d fix it all in about 20 minutes.

I’d watch Judge Redfield T. Baum if he had a show, frankly.

Too bad it wasn't a Habs trophy case
You’d get that nice piece of furniture and a bunch of old Habs players that would drop by your home to tell you how great things used to be.

The problem with that one is that whenever the Habs win or lose a playoff round, the trophy case flips itself upside down and catches fire.
