Score one for the KHL ad dept.
NHL.com's got it's latest promo graphic up for the Stanley Cup finals, a good little faceoff between Zetterberg and Captain Crosby in anticipation for Saturday's big game:
It's not bad, certainly, and gives top billing to the stars.
What it lacks is a stick-wielding bear and snow leopard, like this impressive KHL promo for the Gagarin Cup between Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and Ak Bars Kazan earlier this month:
Someone could probably pull that off with an octopus and a penguin, no?
Thanks to cubanpuckstopper for the image.

Why is there not a Bears hockey team? Bears are the absolute coolest animals.

Anything with a penguin in it automatically rules, since penguins are the coolest of the animal kingdom.

no way
I nominate the wood frog, Rana sylvatica. How many animals can spend the winter frozen solid as a rock and then thaw out in the spring and go about the business of mating as though nothing unusual happened? Plus they have that cute little dark mask that makes them look like bandits. :)

Don’t watch it then. I am a big fan, too, and was extremely disappointed. Saw it Monday and am still cursing McG’s name.

I’m pleased the penguin, for want of opposable thumbs, has decided to peck the eye out of the octopus.

I think it’s awesome. :)
Somehow I don’t think either animal would be especially good at skating, though. The penguin would be slow and waddly, and the octopus would fall over its non-skating legs. I think it would be hilarious to see them try, though.

If you waved one stick in the goalie’s face a la Sean Avery, would it be legal if the other two sticks were on the ice or had possession?
by Hansmoleman on May 28, 2009 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He’d need a special exemption from the rule against only playing with one stick. But then if one broke he wouldn’t have to go to the bench for a replacement.

The penguin doesn’t need skates, or a stick. It just grabs the puck in it’s beak and slides into the net on it’s belly.

Awww man that’s so freaking cool! I wish the NHL would be as cool as the KHL and other leagues not only throughout the states, but also the world. The NHL sucks! Everything the League and Bettman do sucks! Fire Bettman!! NOW!!!
You know, I don’t how many times I’ve read that the NHL should promote its stars. Here the NHL is doing that, and yet more complaints about how the NHL isn’t like the KHL.
