Babcock's McGill reunion

For the second time in a week, a group of McGill alumni, will be flocking from all over North America to gather in Detroit, for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. They will meet at the Joe Louis Arena, in support of McGill graduate Mike Babcock, who will be coaching behind the bench for the Detroit Red Wings. The best-of-seven series is knotted at 3-3.
Babcock is bidding to repeat his 2008 success, when he became the school's first grad to coach a National Hockey League team to the Cup championship. The 46-year-old native of Saskatoon, Sask., was a two-time all-star rearguard at McGill from 1983 to 1987, where he also served as captain and won the Bobby Bell trophy as team MVP. Babcock has not indicated whether he will be wearing his red, striped school necktie. He owns a 5-1 lifetime record in NHL play when wearing the infamous cravat. The tie made its only appearance this season during Game 5 of the Cup final, a 5-0 home-ice victory over Pittsburgh last Saturday (June 6).While Babcock may or may not choose to display that his alma "maters" to the North American viewing audience (CBC, RDS, NBC, 8 p.m.), the entourage of McGill fans, which includes four former teammates of Babcock, will be sporting McGill hockey jerseys and include the following eight members of the Redmen family:
Paul Barber, a team captain and engineering graduate originally from Kemptville, Ont., is one of Babcock's former college roommates and patrolled the McGill blueline from 1981 to 1986. Based in Fenelon Falls, Ont., Barber designs dream homes and has a number of NHL players on his client list.
Dr. Jay McMullan, a native of Pointe Claire, Que., who attended dentistry school while playing alongside Babcock on the Redmen blueline in 1983-84. McMullan (DDS '84) currently resides in Beaconsfield, Que., and operates his practice in nearby Kirkland.
Tim Bossy (BA '85), originally from Pierrefonds, Que., is flying in from Chicago, where he is employed as a commercial broker with the Mid-America Real Estate Group. A nephew of former NHL star Mike Bossy, Tim played one season with Babcock and patrolled left wing for the Redmen from 1980 to 1984.
Marek Nesvadba, originally from Montreal, toiled on defence with the Redmen in 1980-81 and also served two seasons as the team's student manager. He majoring in industrial relations and now is now based in toronto, where he serves as vice-president and general manager with the Ontario division of Motion Industries, a leading distributor of industrial parts and a subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company on the New York Stock Exchange.
Brent Bannerman, a BA history major originally from Lucan, Ont., who skated for McGill from 1996 to 1990. Bannerman now resides in Boston, where he serves as vice-president (business development) of IE-Engine, Inc., a company he co-founded. IE-Engine is a leading developer of human resource cost management software.
Charles Gauthier, a native of Quebec City, and a law student at McGill, was a power forward for the Redmen from 2004 to 2007 before his career was cut short by a concussion.
Yan Turcotte of Laval, Que., is an industrial relations senior at McGill, where he patrolls the blueline, serves as an alternate captain and holds the school record for most penalty minutes.
Guillaume Doucet of Anjou, Que., is currently a centre with tghe Redmen and a physical education sophomore at McGill.
