2009 NHL Awards: Big night for Bruins, Ovechkin and Datsyuk
Well, the ones that won were the ones I figured would, although there were a few close calls, including Mike Richards coming within a few votes of taking home a well-deserved Selke as the league's top defensive forward. (It again went to Pavel Datsyuk.)
In the other biggies, Zdeno Chara won the Norris, Alex Ovechkin won the Hart and Pearson, Tim Thomas took the Vezina and Steve Mason won the Calder. Claude Julien was named coach of the year.

2008-09 NHL All-Rookie Team

W - Bobby Ryan, Anaheim
W - Kris Versteeg, Chicago
I don't have many quibbles with the teams, and I had to pull out my ballot to see if there were any major differences. I had Datsyuk on the first team, Malkin on the second, and Hossa on the first and Iginla on the second. I also had Duncan Keith instead of Boyle on the blueline and Roberto as the second-team goaltender.
The only difference on the all-rookie team was that T.J. Oshie was there instead of Berglund.
Pretty darn close, anyway.

Tim Thomas better stand on his head, or that first team is going to give up a lot of goals.

Looks like Luke Schenn put another name on his “To Destroy” list for finding another doubter.
I suspect Zach Bogosian would have made the decision a lot more difficult if he wasn’t injured for nearly half the season. Now, Schenn would have still made the All-Rookie team obviously, but it would have been a closer decision I’m sure. ;)

Max Talbot, Evgeni Malkin and the Stanley Cup are in Las Vegas tonight. Sounds like a better premise than whatever the green-lighted “Hangover 2” could come up with. With what the Pens have already put the Cup through, God help us all.
