Good for Timmy!
I can’t believe how thrilled I am that Tim Thomas won the Vezina. What a deserving win! Good for him and good for Boston for giving him a shot.
You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.

Campbell
I guess that Bowman pressured a chi reporter to vote for Campbell:)

Nice to see Vokoun got at least one Vezina vote. Even though he’s handsomely paid, I’m not sure there’s a more overlooked and underrated player at any position over the last 5 years than him.

I’d take him in Colorado’s version of the unipron any day.

it’s absolutely incredible that somewhere in north america, somebody who’s paid to be one of the 30 most knowledgeable hockey minds in the world sat down and said to himself “i really like how kipper played this year. i think he was the second-best goalie in the world.”

or, jesus, that two writers thought kipper was the fourth-most valuable player in hockey. hot hell.

or that five goddamn people thought that phaneuf was one of the top five d-men in hockey this year. or that somebody thought that boyle was the fourth-most valuable player in the nhl this year.
also, how would you feel if you were the Blue Jackets’ defensive players and you were told that Mason was the fourth-most valuable player in the whole league this year. it must be such an honour, Jan Hejda and Fedor Tyutin and Manny Malhotra, to play with a talent so superior to yourself.

Not one Hart vote for Ilya Kovalchuk, which is absurd.

Don't blame the PWHA
The Vezina is chosen by the 30 GM’s, and I don’t think they are forbidden from voting for their own guy.
Then there’s the notion that a rival GM might try to stick it to his adversary if, say, that manager would face paying a bonus for a Vezina nomination by his guy.
Blame Calgary’s writers for giving him a couple of Hart votes, but consider that it was either Sutter or Tambellini who picked him for the Vezina, depending on Kipper’s contract.

it’d be pretty badass if it were a sabotage vote on tambellini’s part, but i’m skeptical. the fourth-place hart votes are incredible and utterly indefensible to me. even if you’re a calgary homer of a writer, vote for iginla, cammalleri, bourque, glencross, regehr…
a vote for kipper this year is essentially a big “fuck you” to anybody who cares about the NHL.

Maybe those two ballots both listed Iginla in 3rd, with Kipper in 4th and Datsyuk in 5th? Maybe they were absentee ballots sent in at the trade deadline, before Kipper’s fall from grace? Maybe they were ballots from Finland’s two members, who mistook Backstrom for a Swede?
No, you’re right. There’s no explanation.

I doubt the Calgary guys voted for Kipper. They had to watch him all year.
