Where I'll be on draft night
Is it just me, or is the hype heading into tonight's NHL draft bigger than ever? The 'net is going nuts despite the fact little has happened to this point.
Imagine what it'll be like come July 1? (Which is, incredibly, less than five days away.)
I'll be in the newsroom here in Toronto, working on the coverage at globesports.com and in tomorrow's paper. The Globe has three vets at the draft in Eric Duhatschek, Tim Wharnsby and Sean Gordon who will be filing regularly.
Where to follow the draft:
So that's where you can find me. This blog will have a big roundup either late tonight when I get off work or for sometime Saturday, depending on what else transpires.
You should also be dialled into Greg Wyshynski, Kukla's Korner and TSN.ca.
And, for what it's worth, I still think the Isles take Tavares.

There will probably be multiple live blogs / comment threads as well
…for each of the teams here at SBN. I have all intentions of putting up a open thread before we get underway tonight .

Think he gets to keep that banner?
He could put it on his wall across from a mirror, so every morning he can remind himself what his name is.

I think the Islanders will make him burst through it as he enters the ice on opening night.
… crap, did I just jinx it?

Possibly. If he does burst through a banner and then trip and fall flat on his face and breaks his nose on the ice … well, you will have a vivid illustration of how strong your powers are.

I want to see it be Hedman if only to see the NYI fans chaos driven reaction (sorry Dom..)

Nooo! Then the Lightning will have to improvise and chances of botching the pick go thru the roof. Please let Tavares go first so that the Lightning will stick to the program and pickHedman.

Yeah, see that sets it up for more great theatre! The TB owners can simultaneously announce into the microphone that they’re drafting “John Duchene”.
Poor Colorado won’t know what hit ’em!

Obviously, your team won the Stanley Cup. Great theater, indeed! Come here so I can kick you in the ankle.

Years and hours of therapy later, I would probably be able to appreciate the entertainment aspect of that scenario, and the other dominoes it would disrupt. But now: sadly no.

Well, from a hockey perspective, the Lightning win no matter who they pick… unless Garth Snow goes and drafts a goaltender #1 overall, at least.
But the publicity and interest that Tavares’ name generates far surpasses Hedman and Duchene.

I hope it rains tonight...
…so that the spousal unit doesn’t want to go golfing. I’d rather follow the draft! I agree that this seems to be the most hyped draft for a while. It probably has as much to do with the potential trades as it does with the draftees. It’s much better to follow on TV/on the net than to watch it live…it was pretty boring last year here in Ottawa.

You know, I ask myself that question often.

I don’t think there has been a more highly hyped NHL Draft prior to tonight. In fact, I have a strong suspicion that it could give 2003 a run for its money. Does anyone here feel the same way?
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!
