Rumours from Russia: Emery's team confirms he may leave
A few more small news tidbits from the KHL (these seem to be popular):
- Atlant Mytyschi GM Leonid Vaisfeld offered his thoughts on the situation involving netminder Ray Emery, who has been rumoured to be signing with the Flyers in the near future (consider this a rough translation): "It's possible that the story about Emery and Philadelphia is true. But Ray has one year on his contract with Atlant. We have an agreement, however: If he signs a contract with NHL club, we can release him. Sure, Emery is a priority for us. But if he will leave, we will invite other goalkeepers. Besides, if there appears to be a high-level goalie on the market and ready to sign with us, we won't wait long for Emery's decision." More on Emery later today.
- Zigmund Palffy turned down an offer from SKA St. Petersburg, deciding to stay playing in Slovakia and lighting it up. He says he doesn't want to go anywhere and is, simply, getting old. He apparently had 99 points in 53 games last season in his homeland.
- Sergei Fedorov has arrived to great fanfare in Russia and is in his hometown of Pskov with his girlfriend. (Near Estonia, for the geography buffs.) I'm told he's trying to lie low but that he is about to get into negotiations with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. (Someone call TMZ.)
- Former NHL goaltender Jani Hurme could sign in the KHL soon after two clubs have shown interest in him. He played in Malmo (Sweden's second division) last season.
Whew, edge of your seat stuff there. That last one's sure to create a stir on Twitter.

Mundane or not
I enjoy these features. I would have no idea what’s going on outside of the NHL if you didn’t do these. If you don’t mind doing them, by all means continue.
You have at least one reader.
"Hey! Farmboy! Maybe you can't count, but there are four of us and one of you."
"So get some more guys and then it'll be an even fight."

Heh, heh, I brought up Jani Hurme recently. Didn’t know he was still playing, I remember he had major back issues that kept him out for like two straight years.
Speaking of ex-Senator goalies, looks like Marty Prusek had a heck of a year once he got dealt to Riga.
Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

Palffy
Pretty wild seeing Palffy’s late career homeland renaissance. Considering where he came from, how much cash he made in the U.S. and how popular he is in Slovakia, his decision to keep lighting it up at home sounds like a no-brainer. Not a bad life!

From what I understand, that was the entire reason for his “retirement,” wasnt it? During the lockout, he was at home and I think he just realized he’d rather be at home making less than being in North America making more…..
I loved the guy… own a jersey and have an old email address named after him— sounds like he’s found happiness…
Cheers,
Matt

Sounds like. I think there was an injury at the end with Pittsburgh, but he “retired” mid-season, if I recall.
Yeah, he was great fun to watch. A guy who could score and flyin the obstruction-era NHL.
