2009 Stanley Cup final: Bring on Game 7
Great, great game by Jordan Staal, Tyler Kennedy and Rob Scuderi. Marc-Andre Fleury, too.
Kennedy, in particular, was impressive, especially if you consider the fact he played just 13 minutes. Right from his first shift in the game, he was forechecking hard, giving the kind of effort one would expect in a game like this. I certainly noticed him.
Staal, meanwhile, played nearly 20 minutes and was absolutely terrific. He was on the ice 1:31 more than Sidney Crosby, scored a beautiful goal to open the scoring, and played the bulk of his minutes against Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma obviously saw something there that led him to go with Staal more in key situations, and boy did it ever pay off.
Those are my initial thoughts. I'll have more either late tonight or for tomorrow morning.

Whats with Crosby being limited in ice time? Has Zetterberg finally worn him down? And I can’t understand why Mark Eaton keeps getting PP time.

Whats with Crosby being limited in ice time?
I was wondering that myself… Max Talbot had more ice time than Sidney??? That’s weird. OK, I get that Jordan Staal was matched against Zetterberg — as well as killing penalties, so that explains him being out there so much… But Max Talbot?
I love Max. Great guy. Wonderful spokesman for BMW… but I’m pretty sure I would rather have Sid out there than Max any day of the week — and twice in Game Sixes…

its called adjustments. if the third line is playing better and getting more oppertunities then the first, why limit thier ice time?

With three days off and the home team holding serve thus far in the series, Detroit has the edge heading into Friday’s finale. Further, 12 of the 14 home teams to host a Stanley Cup Game 7 have hoisted, the last visitor being the 1971 Canadiens in Chicago.

fyi:
both these teams are 0-0 in game 7’s at the SCF round this year.
i dont think zetterberg has worn down crosby i think bylsma opted for staal more because that entire third line was freaky good.

I’m all for a Game 7, but I sure hope it has more flow than Game 6 had. Once again, the NHL decided to forget to put referees on the ice, and we had 2 periods of sloppy, boring, block-shots-clear-rebounds-defense-at-all-costs hockey. Is it crazy of me to hope that someone actually puts on a show in Game 7?

And of course, all I’m seeing elsewhere on the Interwebs is (Gretzky) NBA Finals Game 3 recaps.
Way to go, Bettman. Glad I at least have FTR to get my fix.
