Kovalev in talks to re-sign in Montreal

Alex Kovalev is likely staying put in Montreal for next season. Not a lot of details right now but it appears to be a two-year deal for $8.75-million or $4.375-million a season.

This is widely expected, even with so much other turnover for the Canadiens.

UPDATE There's some confusion as to the terms here and if anything's been agreed upon for sure. Tough to weed though all of the information out there today, but expect this to be done, even if at a different dollar figure.

UPDATE Going to have to wait on this one as many sources saying it's not done.

LATE NIGHT UPDATE It now looks as though Montreal went in a different direction and Kovalev is headed elsewhere. I wonder what the real story is here.

Terrible… My faith in Bob Gainey is falling faster than ever. Signing Kovalev is a clear sign that there is no real desire to make this team actually better.

You can never get accuarte info on Kovalev. It’s really incredible how many stories by him are published that are inaccurate.

No kidding. Now I have no clue where this one is … first burn of the day maybe.

It was reported that during draft weekend, Kovalev met with the Molsons and Martin as well as Gainey and there was a verbal agreement in place. Then yesterday, it was reported he was given an actual offer. We’ll see. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was signed after a few of the big names have dropped, exact money figures depending on if the Habs can get one of the big guys.

Mrs Kovalev nixed the Habs deal? ; )
